ASK FOR FERN

Today we checked this pretty place called Ask for Fern, and absolutely love this “FLOWER SHOP” entrance into the enchanting "FERN" restaurant bar. It's so cheerful and entices you to step inside, beyond the flowers! How this whole journey works is that you need to look for 'The Little Flower Shop' down the lane next to the Ramada and down towards the Sri Mohammad Macan Makar Mawatha.

COCKTAILS 

I was really struggling to decide on which cocktails to try out and then the bartender recommended us to try the "OLD HAG" and then decided I needed one because it was in a light bulb, sad that I’m so easily pleased.

The Papa Doble

We enjoyed few different cocktails at this place and another one of my favorite cocktails have to be “Coco for Loco “which has a sweet fruity and strong ginger cocktail that screams fun and flirty. The flavors were on point! Presentation to the cocktail completed by firing a cinnamon stick on top of the glass!

Fern Moonshine 

Also I really recommend you to try the “Murder on the Shanghai Express” This drink is sweet with the perfect amount of freshness, they also mix Chinese black tea and it feels a lot like summertime! And guess what? This one comes in a Chinese take-away box! Fern never fails to surprise us!

MEALS

Our waiter recommended a selection of three to five plates to share between two, so we went for five for a good measure!

One of my favorite vegetarian food. I never knew eggplant could be this delicious! The pieces had a crunchy outside and soft inside with a subtle miso and soy flavor stack with tomato puree.

The real question is, ‘can a burger be sexy’?’ Been feeling burger envy all day, we tried their signature beef patty and we just fell in love with it. I was so surprised by the fact that they used POL ROTI filled with cheese instead of normal burger bun. The beef burger is succulent, beautiful, juicy - I could go on - this time I spent less time taking pictures and the pol roti bun  was of a perfect moisture level. Very pleased.

DESSERT

Despite the volume of food, we consumed, we managed to find space for dessert…

Caramelized mango with candied bacon and lemon curd from Fern, delicious mango's served with caramel bacon!

Yes, the secret's out: at Fern, even desserts have bacon! bacon and dessert can play well together. Quite well, actually. We thought it would be weird but the sweet and salty flavors blend really well.
